Síndrome de Reye - Prevención

Prevención:

Nunca se debe suministrar aspirina a un niño, a menos que sea autorizado por el médico.

En caso de que el niño tenga que tomar aspirina, se debe tener cuidado de reducir el riesgo de que éste adquiera enfermedades virales, como gripe y varicela. Igualmente, se debe evitar el uso de aspirina durante algunas semanas después de recibir la vacuna contra la varicela.

Nota: otros medicamentos de venta libre, como el Pepto-Bismol y los compuestos que contengan aceite de gaulteria, también contienen compuestos de la aspirina, llamados salicilatos, y no se le deben suministrar a un niño con resfriado o fiebre.
