Bezoar

Definición:

Es una bola de material extraño (usualmente pelo o fibra) ingerido que se acumula en el estómago y que no logra pasar a través del intestino.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El factor que puede llevar a la formación de un bezoar es la tendencia a masticar o comer pelo o materiales vellosos (u otros elementos como bolsas plásticas que no se pueden digerir). La incidencia es muy baja y el riesgo es mayor entre los niños con retraso mental o alteraciones emocionales. Los bezoares se observan generalmente en mujeres (aproximadamente el 90 %) entre los 10 y 19 años de edad.
