Craneosinostosis - Treatment

Cierre prematuro de las suturas

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento principal para la craneosinostosis es la cirugía, que se realiza mientras el niño aún es un bebé, y cuyos objetivos son:

  • Aliviar cualquier presión sobre el cerebro
  • Asegurarse de que haya espacio suficiente en el cráneo para permitir el crecimiento apropiado del cerebro
  • Mejorar la apariencia de la cabeza del niño

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La recuperación de la persona depende de cuántas suturas estén involucradas y si se presentan o no otros defectos. Los pacientes que se someten a la cirugía generalmente se recuperan, especialmente aquellos cuya afección no esté asociada con un síndrome genético.

Complicaciones:

La craneosinostosis ocasiona la deformación de la cabeza que puede ser grave y permanente si no se corrige. De igual manera, puede ocurrir un aumento en la presión intracraneal, convulsiones y retraso en el desarrollo.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

La persona debe consultar con el médico si cree que la cabeza de su hijo tiene una forma inusual y lo que debe seguir a continuación es la remisión a un neurólogo pediatra o a un neurocirujano.
