Tratamiento:

No hay un tratamiento específico. El médico sugerirá formas de tratar o manejar los síntomas.

Los padres de un niño con este síndrome deben recibir asesoría genética y someterse a pruebas para determinar si uno de ellos tiene un cambio en el cromosoma 5.

Pronóstico:

La discapacidad intelectual (retardo mental) es común. La mitad de los niños con este síndrome aprende habilidades verbales suficientes para comunicarse. El llanto similar a un gato se vuelve menos notorio con el tiempo.

Posibles complicaciones:

Las complicaciones dependen de la magnitud de la discapacidad intelectual (retardo mental) y de los problemas físicos. Los síntomas pueden afectar la capacidad de una persona para cuidar de sí misma.

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

Este síndrome generalmente se diagnostica al nacer. El médico hablará con usted de los síntomas que presenta el bebé. Después de salir del hospital, es importante continuar las consultas regulares con los pediatras.

A todas las personas con antecedentes familiares de este síndrome se les recomienda asesoría y pruebas genéticas.
