Definición:

Es una rara afección que se presenta únicamente en gemelos idénticos, mientras están en el útero.


El síndrome transfusor-transfundido

Causas:

El síndrome de transfusión gemelo a gemelo ocurre cuando la sangre pasa de un gemelo al otro. El gemelo que pierde la sangre se denomina gemelo donante y el gemelo que la recibe se denomina gemelo receptor.

Ambos bebés pueden tener problemas dependiendo de la severidad de la transfusión. El gemelo donante puede quedar con muy poca sangre y el otro puede tener demasiada cantidad de ésta. El gemelo donante puede requerir una transfusión de sangre, mientras que el gemelo receptor puede necesitar una reducción en la cantidad de sangre en su cuerpo.
