Tratamiento:

El tratamiento puede requerir amniocentesis repetitivas durante el embarazo. Se puede llevar a cabo la cirugía fetal con láser para interrumpir el flujo de sangre de un gemelo hacia el otro.

Al nacer, el tratamiento depende de los síntomas específicos del bebé. El gemelo donante puede necesitar una transfusión de sangre para tratarle la anemia.

El gemelo receptor puede necesitar que le practiquen una reducción en el volumen de líquido corporal, lo cual puede implicar la realización de un exanguinotransfusión.

Se pueden administrar medicamentos para tratar la insuficiencia cardíaca en el gemelo receptor.

Pronóstico:

Si la transfusión gemelo a gemelo es leve, se debe esperar la recuperación total de ambos bebés. Sin embargo, los casos graves pueden ocasionar la muerte de uno de ellos.
