Prevención:

Para prevenir complicaciones, la madre requiere tratamiento complementario a través de todo el embarazo. Asimismo, un buen control del azúcar en la sangre y un diagnóstico oportuno de la diabetes gestacional pueden prevenir muchos de los problemas que pueden ocurrir con esta afección.

Las pruebas de la madurez pulmonar pueden ayudar a prevenir complicaciones respiratorias si se está considerando la posibilidad del parto más de una semana antes de la fecha prevista para el nacimiento del bebé.

Un control cuidadoso del bebé durante las primeras 24 horas posteriores al nacimiento puede prevenir las complicaciones debido a la hipoglucemia. Además, el seguimiento y tratamiento en los primeros días puede prevenir complicaciones debido a altos niveles de bilirrubina.
