Síntomas:

El bebé generalmente es grande para su edad gestacional. Otros síntomas pueden abarcar:

  • Color de piel azulado o con parches (manchas), frecuencia cardíaca rápida, respiración rápida (signos de pulmones inmaduros o insuficiencia cardíaca)
  • Ictericia del recién nacido (piel amarilla)
  • Alimentación deficiente, letargo, llanto débil (signos de hipoglucemia severa)
  • Cara hinchada
  • Apariencia rojiza
  • Temblores o estremecimiento poco después del nacimiento

Signos y exámenes:

Una ecografía realizada a la madre en los últimos meses del embarazo muestra que el bebé es grande para su edad gestacional.

Se pueden realizar pruebas de la madurez pulmonar en el líquido amniótico si se está considerando la posibilidad del parto más de una semana antes de la fecha prevista para éste.

Después del nacimiento, los exámenes pueden mostrar que el bebé tiene hipoglucemia e hipocalciemia. Una ecocardiografía puede revelar un corazón anormalmente grande, lo cual puede llevar a que se presente insuficiencia cardíaca.
