Conjuntivitis neonatal - Prevention

Prevención:

El tratamiento de una mujer embarazada por enfermedades de transmisión sexual previene la conjuntivitis causada por estas infecciones en el recién nacido. Dependiendo de la infección, la madre puede recibir antibióticos por vía intravenosa (IV).

Incluso si no se ha reconocido la infección en la madre, las gotas oftálmicas en los ojos del bebé inmediatamente después de su nacimiento pueden ayudar a prevenir muchas infecciones. Estas gotas se utilizan de manera rutinaria para todos los nacimientos en los hospitales. (La mayoría de los estados tienen leyes que exigen este tratamiento.)

Se recomienda practicar una cesárea cuando una madre presenta lesiones herpéticas activas en el momento del parto para prevenir una enfermedad grave en el bebé.
