Lipofuscinosis neuronal con ceroidosis

SÃntomas:
- Ceguera o alteraciones visuales
- Ataxia, marcha inestable
- Retraso mental con disminución de la función mental
- Demencia (deterioro de la capacidad para pensar)
- Convulsiones
- Aumento anormal de la tonicidad muscular o espasmos (mioclonÃa)
- Trastornos del movimiento ( coreoatetosis )
Signos y exámenes:
Entre los exámenes están:
- Una biopsia para demostrar almacenamiento de lipofuscina (pigmento del envejecimiento)
- Autofluorescencia, una técnica de iluminación usada para saber si los glóbulos blancos contienen vacuolas o lipofuscina
- Microscopia electrónica de una biopsia cutánea para detectar inclusiones anormales en las células
- Una IRM o una TC del cerebro para detectar atrofia (reducción o cerebro pequeño)
- Un EEG que puede indicar excitabilidad anormal del cerebro y convulsiones
- Reducción o incluso ausencia de potenciales visuales evocados
- Un electrorretinograma que puede revelar un deterioro severo de la visión
- Pruebas genéticas (disponibles para múltiples subtipos de este grupo de enfermedades)
