Cataratas presentes al nacer

Síntomas:

  • Opacidad del cristalino que luce como una mancha blanca en una pupila por lo demás normalmente oscura, frecuentemente obvia en el momento del nacimiento sin un equipo especial de observación
  • Incapacidad de un bebé para mostrar conciencia visual del mundo que lo rodea (si las cataratas se presentan en ambos ojos)
  • Nistagmo (movimientos oculares rápidos e inusuales)

Pruebas y exámenes:

Esta afección se diagnostica rápidamente con un examen oftalmológico completo. La búsqueda de una posible causa puede requerir un examen hecho por un pediatra experimentado en trastornos hereditarios, así como la posible realización de exámenes de sangre o radiografías.
