Meibomianitis - Treatment

Disfunción glandular meibomiana

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento normal consiste en:

  • Limpieza cuidadosa de los bordes de los párpados
  • Aplicar calor húmedo en el ojo afectado

Estos tratamientos generalmente reducirán los síntomas.

El médico puede prescribir un ungüento antibiótico para aplicar en el borde del párpado.

Otros tratamientos pueden abarcar:

  • Exprimir la glándula meibomiana, realizado por un oftalmólogo, para ayudar a limpiar las glándulas de secreciones.
  • Inserción de un pequeño tubo (cánula) dentro de cada abertura de la glándula para lavar el aceite espeso
  • Varias semanas del antibiótico tetraciclina

Cualquier afección cutánea general, como el acné o la rosácea, también puede requerir tratamiento.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La meibomianitis no es una afección que amenace la visión; sin embargo, puede ser una causa crónica y recurrente de irritación ocular. Muchas personas encuentran que los tratamientos son frustrantes, debido a que los resultados a menudo no son inmediatos; sin embargo, el tratamiento con frecuencia ayudará a reducir los síntomas.
