Apropiado para la edad gestacional - Overview

Definición:

Describe a un feto o un recién nacido cuyo tamaño está dentro del rango normal para su edad gestacional.

Información:

Asignar la talla o tamaño es una forma de medir y controlar el crecimiento del bebé a lo largo de todo el embarazo, al igual que al momento de nacer.

La medición se calcula sobre la base de la edad gestacional estimada (cuántas semanas estuvo embarazada la mujer), en comparación con lo que se considera talla, peso, tamaño de la cabeza y nivel de desarrollo normales para un niño de la misma edad gestacional y sexo.

Existen tablas disponibles que muestran los límites superiores e inferiores normales para las diferentes edades gestacionales, desde la semana 20 a la semana 42 de la gestación.

Un bebé a término apropiado para su edad gestacional (AGA, por sus siglas en inglés) pesa más de 2,500 gramos (alrededor de 5 ½ libras) y menos de 4,000 gramos (alrededor de 8 ¾ libras).

Es importante saber en qué grupo encaja el bebé. Los bebés con un desarrollo apropiado para la edad gestacional tienden a tener el riesgo más bajo de presentar problemas y tienen tasas de morbilidad y mortalidad más bajas que los bebés pequeños o grandes para su edad gestacional.
