Grande para la edad gestacional (GEG) - Overview

Definición:

Es un feto o bebé que es más grande o está más desarrollado de lo normal para su edad gestacional.

Información:

La edad gestacional es una medida del crecimiento y desarrollo del feto en el útero y del bebé después del nacimiento. Grande para la edad gestacional (GEG) se refiere a un feto o bebé que es más grande de lo esperado para su edad y sexo o que tiene un peso al nacer por encima del percentil 90.

La medida se basa en la edad gestacional estimada del feto o del bebé, en comparación con lo que se considera estatura, peso, tamaño de la cabeza y nivel de desarrollo normales de un feto o bebé de la misma edad y sexo.

Las causas comunes de un feto o bebé que es grande para la edad gestacional son:

  • Diabetes gestacional
  • Embarazo prolongado

Un bebé que es grande para la edad gestacional tiene un riesgo más alto de lesión al nacer y complicaciones de hipoglucemia después del parto.
