Definición:
Es el método de "dar golpecitos" con los dedos, manos o con pequeños instrumentos a las partes del cuerpo durante el
examen fÃsico
, para evaluar el tamaño, consistencia y bordes de los órganos, asà como la presencia o ausencia de lÃquido en ellos.
Al percutir una parte del cuerpo se produce un sonido (parecido al de un golpe de tambor) que indica el tipo de tejido que se encuentra dentro del órgano:

Los pulmones "suenan" huecos a la percusión porque están llenos de aire.

Los huesos y articulaciones "suenan" sólidos.

El abdomen "suena" como un órgano hueco lleno de aire, lÃquido o sólidos.
