Definición:

Estos huesos, como por ejemplo el cráneo y las costillas, consisten en una capa de hueso esponjosa que se encuentra entre dos capas delgadas de hueso compacto. Su corte transversal es plano y no redondeado. Estos huesos tienen médula ósea, pero no una cavidad para dicha médula ósea.
