Efectos secundarios:

La deficiencia de niacina causa pelagra y los síntomas son, entre otros: inflamación de la piel, problemas digestivos y deterioro mental.

Las altas dosis de niacina pueden causar daño hepático, úlcera péptica y erupción cutánea e incluso dosis normales pueden estar asociadas con el enrojecimiento de la piel. Se puede prescribir como tratamiento para el colesterol total elevado y otros tipos de trastornos de lípidos, pero se debe utilizar solamente bajo supervisión médica, dado su potencial de producir efectos secundarios severos.
