La deficiencia de riboflavina no es común en los Estados Unidos debido a que esta vitamina es abundante en el suministro de alimentos. Los síndromes de deficiencia de mayor importancia se caracterizan por dolor de garganta, inflamación de las membranas mucosas, úlceras bucales y/o labiales, anemia y trastornos de la piel.

No se conoce toxicidad de la riboflavina y, dado que es una vitamina hidrosoluble, las cantidades excesivas se excretan fácilmente del cuerpo por medio de la orina.
