El zinc es necesario para que el sistema de defensa del cuerpo (sistema inmunitario) trabaje apropiadamente. Juega un papel en la división y crecimiento de las células, al igual que en la cicatrización de heridas y en el metabolismo de los carbohidratos . El zinc también es necesario para los sentidos del olfato y del gusto.
