Definición:

Los alimentos que uno consume pueden causar, empeorar o aliviar el estreñimiento.

Funciones:

Los patrones de defecación (hacer popó) normales son diferentes para cada persona. Algunas personas pueden tener deposiciones más de una vez al día, mientras que otras pueden tener una cada dos o tres días. La defecación normal no debe ser dolorosa ni presentar dificultad para evacuar las heces.

El estreñimiento se define como las deposiciones que son infrecuentes, duras o difíciles de evacuar. El estreñimiento puede ser un problema crónico (prolongado) u ocurrir de manera ocasional. Puede ser resultado de medicamentos, una enfermedad, falta de suficiente actividad o una dieta demasiado baja en fibra o en líquidos.
