Definición:

El filtro o protector solar es una crema o loción empleada para proteger la piel de los rayos solares. La intoxicación ocurre cuando alguien accidental o intencionalmente ingiere protector solar.

Esto es sólo para fines de información y no para usarse en el tratamiento o en el manejo de una exposición tóxica real. Si usted sufre una exposición, debe llamar al número local de emergencias (tal como 911 en los Estados Unidos) o al Centro Nacional de Toxicología (National Poison Control Center) a la línea 1-800-222-1222.

Elemento tóxico:

Los protectores o filtros solares antiguos utilizaban ácido paraaminobenzoico (PABA) para proteger la piel de los rayos solares. Sin embargo, muchas de las lociones bronceadoras de hoy en día vienen libres de este ácido. Los protectores solares pueden contener cualquiera de los siguientes ingredientes:

Cinnamatos
Padimato-O
Salicilatos (compuestos similares a la ácido acetilsalicílico (aspirin))
Óxido de zinc
