Monóxido de carbono - Información general

Definición:

Es un gas inoloro que causa miles de muertes cada año en América del Norte y es la causa principal de muerte por intoxicación en los Estados Unidos.

Este artículo aborda la intoxicación por la inhalación de este gas.

Elemento tóxico:

Monóxido de carbono, un químico producido a partir de la combustión incompleta de gas natural u otros productos que contengan carbono.

Dónde se encuentra:

Los siguientes elementos pueden producir monóxido de carbono:

  • Cualquier cosa que queme carbón, gasolina, keroseno, petróleo, propano o madera.
  • Motores de automóviles
  • Parrillas de carbón de leña (este carbón nunca se debe quemar en espacios interiores)
  • Sistemas de calefacción portátiles o para interiores
  • Calentadores portátiles de propano
  • Estufas (para espacios interiores y exteriores)
  • Calentador de agua que utilice gas natural
