Los riesgos de cualquier cirugía son:

Se pueden presentar costra, ampollas o pérdida de piel a lo largo del borde de la incisión quirúrgica.

Los riesgos cuando se realiza una cirugía más invasiva, como la mastectomía radical, son:

  • Dolor y rigidez en el hombro. También puede sentir hormigueo donde estaba la mama y por debajo del brazo.
  • Hinchazón del brazo (llamado linfedema) en el mismo lado de la mama extirpada. Esta hinchazón no es común, pero puede ser un problema continuo.
  • Daño a nervios, lo cual puede causar entumecimiento en la parte interna del brazo o debilidad en los músculos de la espalda y la pared torácica.
  • Daño a los nervios que van a los músculos del brazo, la espalda y la pared torácica.
