Riesgos:

El abdomen del bebé puede ser más pequeño de lo normal. La colocación de los órganos abdominales dentro de éste incrementa la presión en el área y puede causar dificultad respiratoria. Por esta razón, el bebé puede necesitar un tubo de respiración y un respirador durante algunos días o semanas.

Otros riesgos de una cirugía abdominal mayor pueden ser inflamación del tejido que recubre la pared del abdomen y parálisis temporal del intestino delgado.

Si se presenta daño a una porción grande del intestino delgado, el bebé puede tener problemas para digerir y absorber los nutrientes de los alimentos.
