Los riesgos de la tiroidectomía son:

  • Lesión a los nervios de las cuerdas vocales y la laringe. Usted puede tener problemas para alcanzar notas altas al cantar, ronquera, tos, problemas para tragar o problemas para hablar después de la cirugía. Estos problemas pueden ser leves o graves.
  • Dificultad respiratoria, lo cual es muy infrecuente y casi siempre desaparece varias semanas o meses después de la cirugía.
  • Sangrado y posible obstrucción de la vía respiratoria.
  • Una elevación aguda en los niveles de la hormona tiroidea (sólo por el tiempo de la cirugía).
  • Lesión a las glándulas paratiroideas (las pequeñas glándulas cerca de la tiroides) o a su riego sanguíneo, lo cual puede causar temporalmente niveles bajos de calcio en la sangre (hipocalciemia).
  • Demasiada secreción de hormona tiroidea (crisis hipertiroidea). Si usted tiene una glándula tiroidea hiperactiva, lo tratarán con medicamentos.
