Después del procedimiento:

Usted o su hijo pasarán menos de una semana en el hospital. La hospitalización puede ser de sólo 1 o 2 días después de una esplenectomía laparoscópica. Usted debe sanar en 4 a 6 semanas.

Pronóstico:

El pronóstico de esta cirugía varía y depende de qué enfermedad o lesiones tenga usted. Las personas que no tienen otras lesiones o problemas médicos graves por lo regular se recuperan después de esta cirugía.

Después de extirparle el bazo, usted será más propenso a padecer infecciones. Hable con el médico para que le apliquen las vacunas necesarias. Los niños especialmente quizá necesiten tomar antibióticos para prevenir infecciones. La mayoría de los adultos por lo regular no necesita antibióticos por largo tiempo.

Cualquier persona que haya tenido una esplenectomía necesitará que le apliquen una vacuna antigripal cada año.
