Cirugía con el uso del láser

Definición:

Es un procedimiento médico que utiliza luz láser para retirar tejidos enfermos o tratar vasos sanguíneos sangrantes. La cirugía láser también se puede utilizar para propósitos estéticos, como eliminación de arrugas, manchas de sol, tatuajes o lunares.

Descripción:

Un láser es un haz de luz que puede enfocarse con precisión y se utiliza para tratar los tejidos mediante el calentamiento de las células afectadas hasta que éstas "revientan".

Existen varios tipos de láser, incluyendo el de dióxido de carbono (CO2), el YAG (granate de itrio y aluminio), de alejandrita, KTP y el de colorante pulsado. Cada láser tiene usos específicos. El color del haz de luz que se utiliza está relacionado directamente con el tipo de cirugía que se está llevando a cabo y con el color del tejido que se está tratando.

Por qué se realiza el procedimiento:

La cirugía láser se puede utilizar para:

Cerrar pequeños vasos sanguíneos con el fin de reducir la pérdida de sangre.
Extirpar verrugas, lunares, manchas de sol y tatuajes.
Reducir la apariencia de arrugas en la piel, cicatrices y otras manchas cutáneas.
Extirpar vasos sanguíneos dilatados de la cara.
Eliminar vellos.
Extirpar lesiones precancerosas (queratosis actínica).
