Riesgos:

Los riesgos de esta cirugía son, entre otros:

• Coágulos sanguíneos en las piernas (trombosis venosa profunda)
• Trombosis venosa profunda que se rompe y va hasta los pulmones ( émbolo )
• Neumonía
• Infección que obliga a la extracción de la articulación
• Aflojamiento de la prótesis
• Dislocación de la prótesis

Es necesario que las personas que tienen una prótesis (como en el caso de una articulación artificial) tengan precauciones especiales contra la infección. Se debe llevar una tarjeta de identificación médica que indique que se tiene una prótesis e informar siempre al médico acerca de la prótesis de articulación de rodilla. Se deben administrar antibióticos antes de cualquier tratamiento dental o cualquier procedimiento invasivo .
