Cirugía estética del oído - Overview

Definición:

Es un procedimiento para acercar a la cabeza las orejas muy grandes o prominentes.

Descripción:

La cirugía estética del oído se puede realizar en el consultorio del cirujano, en una clínica ambulatoria o en un hospital. La cirugía se puede llevar a cabo bien sea bajo anestesia local, que insensibiliza el área alrededor de las orejas, o bajo anestesia general, la cual hace que usted permanezca dormido durante toda la operación. El procedimiento generalmente dura alrededor de 2 horas.

Durante el método más común de la cirugía estética del oído, el cirujano hace un corte por detrás de la oreja y retira la piel para ver el cartílago auricular. Luego, se dobla el cartílago para reformar la oreja, acercándola a la cabeza. Algunas veces, el cirujano corta el cartílago antes de doblarlo. Se utilizan suturas para cerrar la herida.

Por qué se realiza el procedimiento:

El procedimiento se puede llevar a cabo después de que el niño alcance los 5 ó 6 años, cuando el crecimiento del oído casi ha terminado. Sin embargo, si las orejas están muy desfiguradas (orejas caídas), el niño debe someterse a la cirugía pronto para evitar el posible estrés emocional en la escuela.
