Mastoidectomía - Overview

Definición:

Es una cirugía para extirpar las celdillas en los espacios huecos y llenos de aire que se encuentran en el cráneo por detrás del oído, las cuales se denominan celdillas mastoideas.

Descripción:

La cirugía solía ser una forma común de tratar una infección en las celdillas mastoideas. Dicha infección generalmente resultaba de una infección auditiva que se diseminaba al hueso circundante en el cráneo.

Indicaciones:

En la actualidad, la mastoidectomía rara vez es necesaria, debido a que las infecciones se tratan comúnmente con antibióticos.

Sin embargo, esta cirugía se puede utilizar para tratar otros problemas, como:

Colesteatoma
Complicaciones de una infección del oído (otitis media)
Colocar un implante coclear
