CirugÃa del cerebro
Definición:
La cirugÃa del cerebro se realiza para tratar lesiones del cerebro y sus estructuras circundantes a través de una abertura (craneotomÃa) en el cráneo.

Descripción:
Se rasura el cabello en parte del cuero cabelludo; luego se limpia y se prepara para cirugÃa. Se hace una incisión a través del cuero cabelludo y se perfora un agujero a través del cráneo. Se saca un pedazo de cráneo, generalmente de manera temporal, y se lleva a cabo la cirugÃa. Posteriormente, el hueso se vuelve a colocar y se fijar en su sitio.
Indicaciones:
La cirugÃa del cerebro puede ser necesaria para tratar:
- Tumores cerebrales
- Sangrado (hemorragia) o coágulos sanguÃneos ( hematomas ) ocasionadas por lesiones ( hematomas subdurales o epidurales)
- Debilidad en los vasos sanguÃneos ( aneurismas cerebrales)
- Vasos sanguÃneos anormales (malformaciones arteriovenosas - AVM )
- Daño del tejido que recubre el cerebro (dura)
- Cavidades de infección en el cerebro( abscesos cerebrales )
- Neuralgia o dolor facial severos (como la neuralgia del trigémino o tic doloroso )
- Traumatismo craneal y reparación de fracturas del cráneo
- Algunas formas de trastornos convulsivos ( epilepsia )
