Pliegues epicánticos
Definición:
Es piel del párpado superior (que se extiende desde la nariz hasta el lado interno de la ceja) que cubre el ángulo interno o canto del ojo.

Consideraciones generales:
La presencia de un pliegue epicántico es normal en algunas personas de ascendencia asiática y también en los niños que padecen el sÃndrome de Down . Estos pliegues también pueden observarse en niños pequeños de cualquier raza antes de que el puente nasal comience a elevarse.
Causas comunes:
Los pliegues epicánticos pueden ser normales para las personas de origen asiático y algunos bebés de origen distinto; sin embargo, también pueden deberse a ciertos trastornos médicos, como:
- SÃndrome de Down
- SÃndrome de alcoholismo fetal
- SÃndrome de Turner
- Fenilcetonuria (FCU)
- SÃndrome de Williams
- SÃndrome de Noonan
