Conjuntiva llena de líquido; Conjuntiva u ojo inflamado
Definición:
Es la hinchazón del tejido que recubre los párpados y la superficie del ojo (conjuntiva).
Consideraciones generales:
La quemosis es un signo de irritación del ojo, en la cual la cubierta externa del ojo luce como si tuviera líquido dentro de ella. Con frecuencia, el área del ojo se inflama tanto que uno no puede cerrar los ojos apropiadamente.
La quemosis a menudo está relacionada con alergias o una infección ocular. También puede ser una complicación de una cirugía ocular o puede ocurrir por frotarse demasiado el ojo.
Causas comunes:
- Angioedema
- Respuesta alérgica
- Infección bacteriana (conjuntivitis)
- Infección viral (conjuntivitis)
Cuidados en el hogar:
El uso de antihistamínicos de venta libre y de paños fríos colocados en los ojos puede ayudar a aliviar los síntomas debido a las alergias.
Si los síntomas continúan o si tiene dolor y enrojecimiento en el ojo, acuda al médico.

- Los síntomas no desaparecen.
- Se presentan otros síntomas como dolor ocular, cambios en la visión, dificultad para respirar o desmayos.
Lo que se puede esperar en el consultorio médico:
El médico llevará a cabo un examen físico y hará preguntas acerca de los síntomas, como las siguientes:
- ¿Cuándo comenzó?
- ¿Cuánto tiempo dura la hinchazón?
- ¿Qué tan grave es la hinchazón?
- ¿Qué tan hinchado está el ojo?
- ¿Qué hace que empeore o que mejore? (si hay algo)
- ¿Qué otros síntomas se presentan? (por ejemplo, problemas respiratorios)
El médico puede prescribir un medicamento para los ojos con el fin de reducir la hinchazón y tratar cualquier afección que pueda estar causando la quemosis.
