Definición:

Puede ser una condición temporal relacionada con el crecimiento normal y con la adquisición de los dientes permanentes. Puede también ocurrir como una condición permanente en varias enfermedades. Los espacios muy grandes también pueden resultar del crecimiento continuo de la maxila o de la mandíbula, como se ve en la acromegalia.
