Resequedad en los ojos - Overview

Definición:

Es una afección causada por la falta de lágrimas, que son necesarias para la lubricación normal de los ojos y para eliminar partículas y cuerpos extraños.

Consideraciones:

Si usted presenta resequedad en los ojos, experimentará una sensación de ardor, abrasión o picazón. Igualmente, usted puede sentir cansancio o fatiga en los ojos después de leer, incluso durante períodos de tiempo cortos. Si usted utiliza lentes de contacto, probablemente se sentirá incómodo. El hecho de presentar resequedad en los ojos durante un tiempo puede conducir a abrasiones diminutas en la superficie de los ojos.

Causas:

Las causas comunes de resequedad en los ojos abarcan:

  • Envejecimiento
  • Resequedad en el medio ambiente o en el lugar de trabajo (viento, aire acondicionado)
  • Exposición al sol
  • Exposición activa o pasiva al humo del cigarrillo
  • Medicamentos para los resfriados o para las alergias
  • Una lesión en el ojo u otro problema con los ojos o los párpados (como párpado caído o protrusión de los ojos)
  • Síndrome de Sjögren que abarca resequedad en los ojos, la boca y las membranas mucosas, y a menudo artritis reumatoidea u otro trastorno articular
  • Cirugía ocular previa
