Definición:

Es cualquier dolor o molestia que se presente en el área de las costillas. Ver dolor en el pecho .

Consideraciones generales:

Cuando hay una costilla rota, el dolor empeora al inclinar o voltear el cuerpo. Este movimiento no causa dolor en personas con pleuresía (hinchazón del revestimiento de los pulmones) o con espasmos musculares.

Causas comunes:

• Costilla fracturada, con fisuras o con hematomas
• Costocondritis (inflamación del cartílago cerca al esternón)
• Osteoporosis
• Pleuresía (el dolor es peor al respirar profundamente)
