Información general

Definición:

Es una cavidad o bolsa de tejido cerrada que puede estar llena de aire, líquido, pus u otro material.

Consideraciones generales:

Los quistes se pueden formar dentro de cualquier tejido del cuerpo. Los que se encuentran en los pulmones por lo general están llenos de aire, mientras que los que involucran el sistema linfático o los riñones están llenos de líquido. Ciertos parásitos, como las triquinas , la tenia de perro ( Toxocara canis ) y los equinococos pueden formar quistes en los músculos, el hígado, el cerebro, los pulmones y los ojos.

Los quistes son comunes en la piel y se desarrollan como resultado de una infección, obstrucción de las glándulas sebáceas o alrededor de cuerpos extraños.
