Crisis hemolítica - Overview

Hemólisis aguda

Definición:

La crisis hemolítica se presenta a raíz de la rápida destrucción de grandes cantidades de glóbulos rojos (hemólisis). Esta destrucción ocurre mucho más rápido de lo que el cuerpo puede producir nuevos glóbulos rojos.

Consideraciones generales:

Una crisis hemolítica ocasiona anemia aguda (y con frecuencia grave), debido a que el cuerpo no puede producir suficientes glóbulos rojos para reponer los que se han destruido. La parte de los glóbulos rojos que transporta el oxígeno (hemoglobina) se libera en el torrente sanguíneo, lo cual puede llevar a que se presente daño renal.

Causas comunes:

Existen muchas causas de hemólisis, como:

Falta de ciertas enzimas dentro de los glóbulos rojos
Enfermedades autoinmunitarias
Ciertas infecciones
Defectos en las moléculas de hemoglobina dentro de los glóbulos rojos
Defectos de proteínas que conforman la estructura interna de los glóbulos rojos
Efectos secundarios de medicamentos
Reacciones a transfusiones de sangre

Muchas de estas afecciones pueden llevar a una crisis hemolítica.
