Definición:

Es un agrandamiento del bazo más allá del tamaño normal.

Consideraciones generales:

El bazo es un órgano que integra el sistema linfático y filtra la sangre para mantener los glóbulos rojos, los glóbulos blancos y las plaquetas saludables.

Dada su gran variedad de funciones, el bazo puede resultar afectado por muchas afecciones que comprometen al sistema linfático o sanguíneo, al igual que por infecciones, neoplasias malignas y enfermedad hepática.

Los síntomas de la esplenomegalia abarcan:

  • Hipo
  • Incapacidad para ingerir una comida grande
  • Dolor en el lado izquierdo superior del abdomen
