Esplenomegalia
Definición:
Es un agrandamiento del bazo más allá del tamaño normal.

Consideraciones generales:
El bazo es un órgano que integra el sistema linfático y filtra la sangre para mantener los glóbulos rojos, los glóbulos blancos y las plaquetas saludables.
Dada su gran variedad de funciones, el bazo puede resultar afectado por muchas afecciones que comprometen al sistema linfático o sanguÃneo, al igual que por infecciones, neoplasias malignas, enfermedad hepática y parásitos.
Los sÃntomas de la esplenomegalia abarcan:
- Incapacidad para ingerir una comida grande
- Dolor en el lado izquierdo superior del abdomen
- Hipo
Causas comunes:

Infecciones:
- mononucleosis infecciosa (EBV o CMV )
- otras infecciones virales
- infecciones parasitarias
- enfermedad por arañazo de gato
- infecciones bacterianas

Enfermedades que comprometen el hÃgado:
- cirrosis (obstrucción de la vena porta, hipertensión portal)
- colangitis esclerosante
- enfermedad de Wilson
- atresia biliar
- fibrosis quÃstica
- Anemias hemolÃticas :

- leucemia
- linfoma
- enfermedad de Hodgkin
