Cuidados en el hogar:
Se debe tener especial cuidado al levantar y cargar un bebé hipotónico para evitar causarle lesiones.
Se debe llamar al médico si:
Se debe llamar si el niño parece estar "flácido", especialmente si previamente parecÃa tener control muscular normal.
Lo que se puede esperar en el consultorio médico:
Se elabora la historia familiar y la historia médica del niño, a la vez que se lleva a cabo un examen fÃsico. La mayorÃa de los problemas asociados con hipotonÃa también causan otros sÃntomas que, tomados en conjunto, sugieren un problema en particular.
Algunas preguntas de la historia clÃnica pueden ser:
- ¿Cuando notó por primera vez que el bebé parecÃa flácido?
- ¿Fue esta condición evidente en el nacimiento?
- ¿Se desarrolló la condición súbita o gradualmente?
- ¿Se ha notado alguna vez un patrón en el comportamiento, es siempre lo mismo o empeora en ciertos momentos?
- ¿Cómo actúa exactamente el niño?
- ¿Presenta flacidez generalizada o sólo en ciertas áreas?
- ¿Qué otros sÃntomas están presentes?
El examen fÃsico probablemente abarque una revisión detallada de la función del sistema nervioso y muscular. Los exámenes diagnósticos varÃan dependiendo de la causa de la hipotonÃa que se sospeche.
