Micrognacia - Overview

Definición:

Es un término que describe una mandíbula inferior anormalmente pequeña.

Consideraciones:

En la verdadera micrognacia, la mandíbula es tan pequeña que interfiere con la alimentación del bebé. Los bebés con micrognacia pueden requerir tetinas o biberones especiales para alimentarse adecuadamente.

La micrognacia frecuentemente se corrige sola durante el crecimiento, especialmente en la pubertad cuando la mandíbula crece bastante. Puede ser causada por ciertos trastornos y síndromes hereditarios.

La micrognacia es una causa del alineamiento anormal de los dientes, lo cual se puede observar en la forma como estos cierran. A menudo, no hay suficiente espacio para que los dientes crezcan. Consulte con un ortodoncista cuando al niño le salgan los dientes permanentes. A veces, los niños pueden superar la micrognacia con el tiempo y tiene sentido esperar para tratar la afección hasta cuando sean mayores.
