Si el examen resulta positivo, es bueno confirmarlo con una cromatografía de gases acoplada a espectrometría de masas (CG/EM). En algunos casos, un examen arrojará un resultado falso positivo. Esto puede deberse a factores de interferencia como algunos alimentos, medicamentos recetados por el médico y otras drogas.
