Consideraciones especiales:

El retardo en la entrega de la muestra de orina en el laboratorio altera los resultados del examen.

Este examen es ineficaz si el bebé tiene menos de 6 semanas de vida y no ha ingerido proteína dietética en las últimas 48 horas.

Es necesario realizar una cromatografía de la orina para medir con precisión el aumento en los niveles de aminoácidos específicos.

La realización de exámenes en los bebés para detectar aumento en los niveles de aminoácidos puede llevar a un diagnóstico precoz de un error innato del metabolismo. Si la afección se trata oportunamente, se pueden prevenir complicaciones como el retardo mental severo.
