Examen de anticuerpos antiinsulínicos - Results

Valores normales:

Normalmente, no hay anticuerpos contra la insulina en la sangre.

Los rangos de los valores normales pueden variar ligeramente entre diferentes laboratorios. Hable con el médico acerca del significado de los resultados específicos de su examen.

Significado de los resultados anormales:

Si usted tiene anticuerpos IgG e IgM contra la insulina, su cuerpo reacciona ante ésta como si fuera algo extraño, lo cual puede hacerla menos efectiva o ineficaz del todo.

Los anticuerpos también pueden cambiar la cantidad de tiempo que la insulina tarda en actuar, poniéndolo a usted en riesgo de presentar niveles bajos de azúcar en la sangre. Esto quiere decir que la insulina no puede transportar la glucosa del torrente sanguíneo a las células. Como resultado, se necesita un aumento en los niveles de insulina para lograr el mismo efecto, lo cual se denomina resistencia a la insulina.

Si el examen muestra niveles altos del anticuerpo IgE contra la insulina, entonces su cuerpo ha desarrollado una respuesta alérgica al medicamento, lo cual podría ponerlo en riesgo de presentar reacciones cutáneas o reacciones más severas. Otros medicamentos, como los antihistamínicos o los esteroides inyectables en dosis bajas, pueden ayudar a disminuir la reacción. En caso de que las reacciones hayan sido graves, se puede requerir un procedimiento llamado desensibilización en el hospital.
