Transiluminación - Overview

Definición:

Es la colocación de una luz a través de una cavidad u órgano del cuerpo.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

Se reduce la intensidad de las luces de la habitación o se apagan para una visualización más fácil de la parte apropiada. Luego se coloca una luz brillante apuntando hacia un lugar del cuerpo, clásicamente la cabeza, el escroto o el tórax de un bebé prematuro o recién nacido, o la mama de una mujer adulta.

La transiluminación algunas veces se utiliza para encontrar vasos sanguíneos.

Preparación para el examen:

No se necesita preparación para este examen.

Lo que se siente durante el examen:

No existe ninguna molestia asociada con este examen.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

Este examen se puede hacer junto con otros exámenes para diagnosticar:

Hidrocefalia en recién nacidos o en bebés
Hidrocele en varones
Quistes o lesiones mamarias en mujeres

En los recién nacidos, se puede utilizar una luz halógena brillante para transiluminar la cavidad torácica si hay señales de atelectasia pulmonar o aire alrededor del corazón. (La transiluminación a través del tórax sólo es posible en recién nacidos pequeños.)
