Puntuación del recién nacido

Valores normales:

Un puntaje de 8 ó 9 es normal e indica que el recién nacido se encuentra en buenas condiciones. Un puntaje de 10 es muy inusual, ya que casi todos los recién nacidos pierden un punto por pies y manos azulados, lo cual es normal para la fase de transición después del nacimiento.

Significado de los resultados anormales:

Cualquier puntaje inferior a 8 indica que el niño necesita asistencia. Los puntajes por debajo de 5 indican que el bebé necesita asistencia inmediata para adaptarse a su nuevo ambiente. Sin embargo, un niño que tenga un puntaje bajo en el primer minuto y un puntaje normal a los cinco minutos no debería tener ningún tipo de problemas a largo plazo.
