Valores normales:

Los valores normales muestran una frecuencia cardíaca entre 120 y 160 latidos por minuto y son una señal de que el feto no está sufriendo. Los latidos cardíacos pueden variar de 5 a 25 latidos por minuto a partir de la frecuencia cardíaca fetal inicial (normal).

Una elevación por encima de los valores iniciales con el movimiento fetal es una señal tranquilizante.

La frecuencia cardíaca fetal puede disminuir ligeramente durante una contracción. Esto es normal siempre y cuando la frecuencia cardíaca fetal se recupere rápidamente una vez que la contracción haya cesado.

Significado de los resultados anormales:

Las cardiotocografías pueden detectar las siguientes situaciones o afecciones durante el embarazo:

  • Reducción del flujo de sangre al feto (compresión del cordón)
  • Bloqueo de las señales eléctricas dentro del miocardio, ocasionando una alteración de los latidos cardíacos (bloqueo cardíaco fetal)
  • Posicionamiento incorrecto del bebé (mala posición fetal)
  • Muy poco suministro de oxígeno al feto (hipoxia fetal potencial)
  • Infección (el monitoreo puede sugerir la presencia de una infección, pero no puede diagnosticarla)
  • Muy poco intercambio de oxígeno entre el útero y la placenta (insuficiencia uteroplacentaria)
  • Sufrimiento fetal
  • Desprendimiento prematuro de placenta
  • Anemia severa en el feto
