Definición:

Un frotis bucal es la extracción indolora de una muestra de células del revestimiento de la boca (en el interior de las mejillas) para su estudio.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

El médico raspa suavemente el interior de la mejilla con una pequeña espátula con el fin de recoger la muestra de células para su análisis.

Preparación para el examen:

Enjuague y lávese la boca de acuerdo con las instrucciones.

Lo que se siente durante el examen:

Usted experimentará una sensación de raspado a medida que se recojan las células de la mejilla.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

Este procedimiento se utiliza para obtener células con el fin de realizar análisis cromosómicos y de ADN, con mayor frecuencia para pruebas genéticas. El Comité Olímpico Internacional adoptó el examen hace muchos años para ayudar a detectar impostores masculinos entre las atletas femeninas. Cuando el examen se hace de esta manera, se denomina cromatina sexual. Este método también ayuda a establecer la identidad sexual de recién nacidos.
