Cuáles son los riesgos:

Sangrado excesivo
Desmayo o sensación de mareo
Infección (se presenta un riesgo leve cuando hay ruptura de la piel)
Cicatriz (se presentan cuando se han realizado punciones múltiples en la misma área)
Nódulos calcificados (se presentan algunas veces en los bebés, pero por lo general desaparecen alrededor de los 30 meses de edad)
Falsos resultados debido al daño a las células sanguíneas (y la necesidad de repetir el examen con sangre extraída de una vena)

Consideraciones especiales:

Las muestras sanguíneas capilares son muy útiles cuando se necesitan pequeñas cantidades de sangre o cuando la sangre es difícil de obtener, como en el caso de los bebés. Muchas veces, sin embargo, cuando se necesitan cantidades mayores de sangre, ésta se debe extraer de una vena.
