Radiografía de una extremidad - Overview

Definición:

Es una imagen de las manos, la muñeca, los pies o de todas estas áreas. El término "extremidad" a menudo se refiere a la mano o el pie humano.

Los rayos X son una forma de radiación que penetra en el cuerpo para crear una imagen sobre una película. Las estructuras que son densas (como los huesos) aparecerán blancas, el aire aparecerá negro y otras estructuras aparecerán en sombras de gris.

Forma en que se realiza el examen:

El examen lo lleva a cabo un técnico en rayos X en una sala de radiología de un hospital o en el consultorio médico. A usted se le solicitará colocar el área específica que va a ser examinada (como la mano, la muñeca o el pie) sobre una mesa.

Será necesario que permanezca quieto a medida que se toma la radiografía. Se le puede pedir que cambie de posición, de manera que se puedan tomar más radiografías.

Preparación para el examen:

Coméntele al médico si está embarazada. Es necesario quitarse todas las joyas del área a la que se le va a tomar la radiografía.

Lo que se siente durante el examen:

En general, no se presenta incomodidad. Usted puede sentir una ligera molestia mientras se ubica la mano o el pie en su lugar para la radiografía.

Razones por las que se realiza el examen:

El médico puede ordenar este examen si usted tiene signos de fracturas, tumores o afecciones degenerativas en manos, pies o muñecas.
